Snack Attack: How to Plan for Cravings

All of us have cravings from time to time, and you’ve probably learned about the difference between how processed vs. unprocessed carbs break down in our bodies, as well as all about the need for protein when you’re trying to lose weight and get stronger. We’re always scavenging for new ideas about how to modify our diets and keep those energy levels up throughout the day, and because of this we thought we’d share just a few of these ideas with you.

1. No Bake Energy Bites

Fundamentally this is just a sticky substance + a high fiber oat, dry oat, or grain + any yummy high vitamin extras you want to throw in there. One of our favorite combos is manuka or local honey drizzled over whole oats and flaxseed, carob chips, and dried coconut flakes. Let your imagination run wild, just keep in mind the protein + fat + whole carb ratios your body needs, and you can’t go wrong.

2. Smoothies

Investing in a Ninja was the best thing that’s happened in our kitchen in quite a while. On Sunday evening, we’ll put together a week’s worth of smoothie combinations in cups in the freezer. Then, when it’s time to mix, We’ll dump a cup in the blender, add a little yogurt, and throw it back in the cup it started in to drink.

3. Soups

Again, with the Ninja, I take the same tack with soups. Preparing them on Sunday and storing them in the freezer. Then, all I have to do is heat them up, and we’re good to go. This weekend it was all about a puree of chickpeas, cuman, turmeric, and coconut milk, blended and put on a boil with a little salt and pepper. Then, into the freezer it went. When it emerges during the week, we’ll heat it up, throw a dollop of yogurt in it, and top with nutritional yeast and fennel.
